Hooglandse church

Hooglandse church

The Hooglandse church is also called Saint Pancras church, On the same site a small wooden chapel was founded in 1315, belonging to the parish of Leiderdorp, and consecrated to an early Christian martyr, Saint Pancratius. The construction of a new monumental church started in 1377, and the choir was enlarged around 1480. As the Catholic Middle Ages came to an end in the first half of the 16th century, construction work ground to an halt and was never resumed. The tower, which was retained when the old chapel was enlarged in 1377, is the oldest part of the church.
